What started in 1929 with a quarry is today an internationally active, third-generation family company. Kusser develops and manufactures granite solutions that combine engineering with manual craftmanship, from internationally renowned floating sphere fountains, to bridges that set new benchmarks. Our mission: Consolidating materials and ideas to create structures that will last for generations.

Sustainable since 1929

To us, sustainability means more than just saving CO₂. It means accepting responsibility over the generations. For the region from which our granite comes. For the people that process it. For everyone that uses it. We invest in the next generation, train apprentices, and pass on our knowledge to our successors. We maintain a high level of creditworthiness and reliable partnerships because we know that construction projects require commitment. We develop our ideas without losing sight of our heritage; we believe that a high level of craftsmanship is not an attribute to be sidetracked by transient trends.

History

1883 – Family origins

Georg Kusser (I) acquires the farm in Renholding. This is the start of a family company that will later make history in granite.

1903 – First steps

Around the year 1903, the three stonemason brothers Georg (II), Johann, and Alois Kusser (I) set up their own business.

1929 – The beginning
Historic image of two business men in a quarry

The four Kusser brothers conclude a formal partnership agreement. This gives the company a clear structure and foundations for growth shared by all.

1930 – Gravel plant in Gramlet

Connected by a cableway, the plant in Gramlet supplied the granite crushed stone that was in demand for railway and road construction. The crushed stone plant was fed using rail trolleys, an inclined brake plane, and six switches.

1953 – New beginnings after the war

Major projects required better machinery. In the following years, substantial investments were therefore made in technology to meet growing demand.

1960 – Eging screening plant with cableway

Construction of a new 1.8 km cableway from the Gramlet quarry to the plant in Eging. It significantly improved material transport and created new logistical possibilities.

1966 – Independent power supply

The Einzendobl Hydroelectric Power Plant comes online. To this day it is still supplying the plant and quarry with renewable energy.

1970 – Commencement of processing operations

A sawing and grinding plant opens in Aicha vorm Wald. Kusser starts to produce high quality cut stone and facade panels.

1987 – Floating sphere fountain

The world’s first floating granite sphere fountain is produced. A new category of water sculptures is created.

1991/92 – Granite strike
